The Makers were wise to release most of the UI changes now, months before the expansion, so that we may have time to get used to the way things will be from now on. Many of you are scrambling to respec, reglyph, and just get to know your characters again. This is time well spent comrades.
In order to help with this transition, the warriors over at Tankspot have released this video, the Patch 4.0 survival guide. I highly recommend you all take about 10 minutes and listen to the Marmot:
It is good advice, comrades. The Key Points are these:
- Addons - Just as with any patch, your addons do not automatically update to match the new game content. This is more true than ever. As Lore pointed out, if you use addons, they are most likely broken with the patch. Your best bet is to disable everything going in, and then proceed to test each one to see which ones are actually working, and which ones still need updating. The Addon creators are usually pretty good about adapting to new content, so just be patient and hit up their websites often. If your game remains broken even after disabling your addons, then it may be possible that you'll need to remove them completely. This requires a full UI reset, and can be found on the help menu. You can also contact me if you have any questions regarding this.
- Gem/Stat Changes - Many gem stats have changed color, so check your gear and make sure you still have what you need. Often, the gems themselves have been changed on your gear automatically so that you can keep the stats you wanted, but sometimes that will mean your gems won't match the gem slots, and you may lose your gem bonus. Adjust accordingly.
- Respec/Reglyph - The reworked specs are now implemented, and you will need to redesignate your talents. You can play with the different trees here, and I highly recommend visiting some class forums as well if you have any questions. Glyphs are now items that teach permanent spells, and we all get an extra 3!! Replacing a glyph now requires Vanishing Powder, which can be purchased from vendors or player inscriptionists.
- Macros - Some of the macro language has been changed, so all macros have been removed from your action bars. You still have them though, so test them out to make sure that they're working, and make any changes you need to. Most of them should be fine, but will still need modifications thanks to:
- New Abilities! - Everyone should visit their Class and Profession Trainers, as you will likely need to learn some new and fantastic abilities!
- Get to Know your Character - With all the changes to UI and your character, it is wise to spend some time playing with them in order to get used to your new digs. Many classes have new and/or additional resources, and it will take some getting used to. Don't dive right into instances or raids without learning how to play at your best once again.
- Guild UI - It now has its own dedicated window. More on this later.
The Official Patch 4.0.1 Notes can be found here! Go forth, and learn well. It is the dawn of a new age, comrades! We Must be Prepared!!
